pbbuttonsd not working after wake up

  • Quote

Post by iTux » Thu Sep 23, 2004 7:27 pm

Hi,

Since I switched from xfree to xorg, I have a problem with pbbuttonsd. After a fresh start or a wake up from sleep, pbbuttonsd and gtkpbbuttons do not work, that is, pressing the keys does nothing even if the processes seem to be still running.

If I restart pbbuttonsd then gtkpbbuttons then it works fine until the next sleep.

I re-emerge pbbuttonsd and gtkpbbuttons and started from a fresh configuration and I still have the same problem.

Its on a iBook G3 700MHz.

Thanks,
iTux

Hey, I'm using ~ppc of pbbuttons, and am having trouble too. When it wakes up, it stays bright for a few minutes, and then dims about 4 clicks worth, and won't go above it. If I stop pbbuttons, I can go above it again.

I'm running xorg, and the 2.6.9 kernel

Neat... same problem here, but it dims only when I run on battery. It works ok with the power plugged in. However, I can not change brightness at all?

Is it the new Xorg? Man I have so much trouble since I updated. :-(

I don't know. I didn't have this problem before I updated to ~ppc pbbuttons, but sometimes (1 out of 6 maybe?) my ibook wouldn't wake up, so when I saw ~ppc, I jumped on it. You're right though, it is only when on battery.

I don't know if this is pbbuttons related, probably. When I am online via airport, and sleep, then wake up where that airport channel is no longer available, no amount of /etc/init.d/net.eth1 restart will get the airport to connect to anything. I have to modprobe -r the airport module, and insert it again, and it jumps right on.

I am having exactly the same problem that you describe about the dims. After an xorg update but no pbbuttonsd update.

About the not waking up. I noticed that when Mac-on-Linux (mol) is running, it will not wake up if the graphical interface Aqua is running (sometimes I run OS X in text-mode only). Actually, I think it does wake up but the X screen does not come back on.

Is your wlan-stick a USB device? I know pbbuttons has had problems with USB in the past. Since I've been using version 6.5, I haven't had that problem though.

Yet another confirmation, pbbuttonsd 0.6.5 behaves totally eratically on my system (Tibook revIII), even in the absence of any USB device. Once I downgraded to the stable version (0.6.1) everything started to work again (after restoring configuration files from backup, the new pbbuttonsd features a different structure of those). I am not missing any of the new features in 0.6.5, for those like me who do not use suspend to disk or stuff like this the downgrade to stable is recommended.

Just like to note I'm having the same problem on battery, and also the battery life is incredibly short. This is a new install on a system a had running Gentoo since January, and my previous installation had pretty darn good battery life. I've even tried my old configuration, with no improvement.

Running a graphite special edition iBook.

Hi,

Yesterday I downgraded to stable (finally got bored of restarting it every time :) ) and it works fine.

Thanks for your help,

pbbuttonsd-0.6.5 was recently patched for this problem, can you try re-emerging it (It was not -r bumped when the patch was added) and let us know if it works after the patch? Thanks!
