KDE 3.1rc5

I've tried to emerge KDE 3.1rc5 but it fails. I've unmasked and try to start it with

Code: Select all

emerge /usr/portage/kde-base/kde/kde-3.1_rc5.ebuild
but I get the following error message:

Code: Select all

!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "~kde-base/kdebase-3.1_rc5" have been masked.
!!! (dependency required by "kde-base/kde-3.1_rc5" [ebuild])
What is the problem? Do I have to set any special USE flags?

KDE 3.1rc5 is masked in the portage tree. You'll have to unmask it manually in the packages.mask file.

Perhaps it could work if you pass all the ebuilds files as argument to emerge like this

Code: Select all

cd usr/portage/kde-base
emerge kde/kde-3.1_rc5.ebuild kdebase/kdebase-3.1_rc5.ebuild.........
But in this case you'll have to find out all the dependencies, so my advice is that you learn how to manage masked packages

That doesn't work either. I think that there are any dependencies with packages that don't have the ppc-keyword set because on my Athlon I can unmask the packages and install KDE with the above command. Perhaps anyone who has installed KDE 3.1rc5 can tell me which USE-flags I have to use or which ebuilds I have to change.

you porbably have to a) unmask in packages.mask and then b) do ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~ppc" emerge blah (it should be masked for testing as well afaik)

I tried this, too, but with no success. Is no-one out there who had tried KDE 3.1rc5 on a PowerPC?

DocTomoe has built them on ppc and is running them, says they work fine for him.

You may have to edit the ebuilds to put ppc in keywords? I have no idea, just guessing
