ut2004 won't run

Post by Rodent » Sun Aug 15, 2004 8:21 am

I emerge ut2004 everything seemed fine untill I ran it:

Code: Select all

$ ut2004
<start up screen comes up and crashes>
(something like...) Error... this may be caused by a bad install or overheated hardware
So I am like ok bad install, I re-emerge (I was intoxicated the first time anyway) only to get the same error...

I decide before I bug report I will check that the ut2004's Disc linux_installer does work... again everthing's fine until I run, same thing different error message

Code: Select all

$ ut2004
ObjectProperty XEffects.xPawnGibGroup.PrecacheContent.Level: Serial size mismatch: Got 32, Expected 15

History:

Exiting due to error
I patched to 3236, changes from ...Got 48... to ....Got 32...
I get the same thing runnning as root.

The log has:

Code: Select all

Log: Log file open, Sun Aug 15 02:47:44 2004
Init: Name subsystem initialized

Init: Build label: UT2004 Build UT2004_Patch_[2004-06-11_16.51]
Init: Object subsystem initialized

Exit: Executing UObject::StaticShutdownAfterError
Exit: Exiting.
Log: FileManager: Reading 0 GByte 13 MByte 413 KByte 686 Bytes from HD took 2.46
5716 seconds (0.045974 reading, 2.419742 seeking).
Log: FileManager: 0.000000 seconds spent with misc. duties
Uninitialized: Name subsystem shut down
Uninitialized: Log file closed, Sun Aug 15 02:47:48 2004
And as the grand smack in the face I emerge the ut2004-demo, it works flawlessly!

This is a pretty new install:
2.6.8-rc4 (4kb stacks)
nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111
nvidia-glx-1.0.6111
alsa sound
udev
sata drive

Any advice would be helpful I have searched high and low, anything even what code to read to understand this problem would be great.

Thank you for your reply.
I took my time and 'play tested' the game in windows extensively without error (the whole single player game). Well I did have EAX problems but that was fixed by updating a driver.

I thus find it _unlikely_ that it is the media, being that it will install successfully in both OS's and play in one fine. I think it is my setup, but I have no idea what it could be.

I would appericate it if you could help determine what the error means (or where to find out), telling me how to test the media, or any other advice that may be helpful.

1. don't use the ebuild ... just cp the linux installer from cd 1 and run that

2. report your success or failure here :lol:

tried the cd installer, doesn't work gives above error messages on running ut2004

I could try re-installing ut2004 (again) if you think it may help. I installed ut to /opt/ut2004 and a sys-link to /usr/games/bin
... I will check that the ut2004's Disc linux_installer does work... again everthing's fine until I run, same thing different error message

Try copying the Linux installer file from CD1 to your home directory and run it from there. Worked for me :)

ps I had problems running it from the CD.
