Global asoundrc(resolved)

I am trying to get UT2004 to work with SpeechD and Festival through the use of DMix. I had everything working, and then I tried to run UT2004 with TTS. The text would play only after I had quit. So now it uses ESD, but in order for SpeechD and Festival to use the same ESD I must start ESD at boot time(right?). I tried to setup a global ASoundRC file, and it doesn't seem to work. I want the global ASoundRC, and that other stuff doesn't really matter. Why doesn't this work?

The file has to be called /etc/asound.conf
