Ok, first, I emerged unreal-tournament and everything seemed to work fine (I have the retail disc...). However, I was getting kicked from just about every server I was trying to connect to with some message about "playing nice" or something.
I figured maybe it was because I was using UT v451, which isn't really official, so I unmerged it and then did:
PLEASE don't reply to a post if you have nothing useful to add.
All it does is take the post off of the "0 replies" list and decrease the number of people that are likely to read, thus decreasing the chance that the problem will be solved.
If you have the same problem, simply subscribe to the post and then you can follow along as people attempt to resolve it, maybe adding relevant information if it is needed.
Now I'm going to have to watch this post and if no one replies soon, I will have to re-post it tomorrow.
my post may help a little bit...
i've tried to run UT on my gentoo-laptop.
the only version that REALLY worked for me was v451
i've read somewhere in the forums, that older versions dont run on gentoo.
so switch back to v451
the problem with the 4.51 version maybe is caused by utpure (cheat protection) wich sometimes kicks you right after connecting to a server. this can be solved is you clear your cache directory ( /home/<user>/.loki/ut/cache ) - for that you have to look in the cache.ini to rename the cached files and then move them to their proper directory /opt/unreal-tournament/<and so on>
Ok, I downloaded the installer for v436, but when I try to run it, it gives me this:
$ sh ut-install-436.run
Verifying archive integrity...tail: cannot open `+6' for reading: No such file or directory
Error in check sums 889744922 2341625838
(CD is mounted, I'm part of the games group etc...)
Doesn't matter if I'm root or not... Anyone know what the problem is?
