Help with creation, editing, or playback of sounds, images, or video. Amarok, audacious, mplayer, grip, cdparanoia and anything else that makes a sound or plays a video.

Xine + quicktime + firefox

Post by jerry arns » Sat Jul 17, 2004 4:00 pm

I know there is another thread today about xine + quicktime but I don't have the same questions.

I have an i386 machine, Firefox 0.8, Xine 0.9.23 and win23codecs, and I have the xineplugin.so file in firefox/plugins.

I would like to watch Quicktime movies and trailers.

Problem 1 :
when playing the trailer of Spiderman2, I have the following message in Xine : "file uses a non supported codec Q Design Audio v2 (QDM2)". And I have the image but no sound. Plays OK in firefox (fluid) but without sound.

Question 1 : how can I add support for QDM2 ?

Problem 2:
when trying to watch the "Farenheit 9/11" trailer, firefox just shuts down with this message :

Code: Select all

Gtk-WARNING **: invalid cast from `GtkSuperWin' to `GtkWidget'
External func COMCTL32.dll:16
External func COMCTL32.dll:17
wine/module: Unsupported QuickTime version (0x6693c3e0)
theQuickTimeDispatcher caught -> 0x6693c3e0
wine/win32: Win32 Warning: Accessed uninitialized Critical Section (0x66bd5028)!
wine/win32: Win32 Warning: Accessed uninitialized Critical Section (0x66bd5010)!
Question 2 : what should I do ?

Problem 3 :
The "Alien vs Predator" trailer begins with a "click here to begin" in the movie window. Clicking has no effect and thus I cannot watch the trailer.

Question 3 :
How can I start the trailer ?

Question 4 :
I also have a PPC machine (iBook G4). Will I be able to configure all this also on this machine ?

Thank you.

Do you have "qt" in your use flags? That may help.

other nice thing would be to just compile mplayer, and the newest version of mplayerplug-in. Xine is nice, but there's no mozilla/firefox integration.

plus, it plays every quicktime file I throw at it... not to mention let me listen to my sirius satellite radio internet streams.

This guy is dead on imo.
Even if you like quicktime for browser integration you cannot match the unstable mplayerplug-in on the nix platform.

I'd offer some help for xine but I've never used it.

I can play quicktime with Xine in Firefox. Mplayer is good too, but it can't play DVD's on my machine. That's the only reason I switched back.
