I wasn't referring to the Capture extension. I mean you can't hear anyone else using the Microphone either. It's a common problem with Hardware Audio in UT.

didn't realize you were the one from the #litestep days.

I find it very funny that you did too.

im using an audigy 2 zs (at stereo headphones atm) and ive several problems with this.

- ut2k4 sonds nice but the sound is not loud enough (ive pulled it to the maximum :/)
- soundoutput with xmms (using the alsa plugin) is much more louder than before

someone knows something about this?
or do i have to wait for a next release?

I've heard before that it can be a bit quiet. I have an external amplifier for my 5.1 system so I'm not bothered. You could try to email the author and ask him what he knows and if a new release will have it fixed. I have a feeling the only reason your xmms is louder is because you've got the mixer jacked up way high trying to fix problem number one.

Ok!
I may sound like a fool but...is this supposed to override the alsa driver somehow?I mean:Can I use it simply to play music on my Xmms?
How do I know it is installed and up?
Do I have to run a command to activate it?

OpenAL is a library. You don't replace any drivers. It uses ALSA. OpenAL is a 3D/postional audio API, there would be no need to use it in something like xmms. It's for games, mostly.

Well, I have a 5.1 speaker system, and UT2004 works with all my speakers. However, all the sounds are pretty loud except for the sounds coming from my own gun. The voices, yelling, and other players guns firing are all loud, but my gun fire is quiet, and yes the center speaker is working because other noises come out of it, I just can't hear my own guns.

Damn I'm stuck with this crummy laptop and my Audigy's thousands of miles away in my desktop. Oh well. Good news anyway. Hopefully the guys maintaining the original UT code will make use of this. 3D sound in that has always been flakey. I guess they've been waiting for OpenAL to mature before doing anymore work on it.

I'm actually on an Athlon 64, and fixed the bug; forgot to upload the ebuild when I changed it. I just reuploaded it to the same URL, it should work now.

No, there are no plans of it going into Portage that I know of. I've no clue if this is even worthy of Portage (it's a bit of a pain, since they'd need to make a virtual/openal and change a dozen packages to point to that.)

I've got an Audigy Platinum eX, I'm getting the same problem re: quietness. Were you ever able to figure this one out?

It seems that no sound is coming from the front center channel only, despite specifying so in ~/.openal-speakers.

Another thing that I found strange, in the fivepoint configurations, number 5: (assigned to LFE) was set to off. Shouldn't that one be on?

Really Old Bump! :)

Since I cant seem to find the solution anywhere, has anyone got their center speaker outputting audio? My ~/.openalrc

Code: Select all

(define devices '(alsa native))
(define alsa-device "surround40:0,0")
(define speaker-num 4)
My ~/.openal-speakers

Code: Select all

0: 1 -0.70710678 0 0.70710678
1: 1 0.70710678 0 0.70710678
2: 1 -0.70710678 0 -0.70710678
3: 1 0.70710678 0 -0.70710678
4: 0 0 0 0
5: 0 0 0 0
6: 0 0 0 0
7: 0 0 0 0
I should note I'm not using the hardware accelerated emu10k1 driver because:
1) ebuild link in this thread doesn twork
2) The one here which i just compiled myself resulted in no audio output :/

Anyone any suggestions?

4.0 has no center and vanilla openal doesn't do more than 4.0.
