Alsa emerge error

Post by yuiichi » Sat Jul 10, 2004 3:48 pm

I'm afraid i'm having the same trouble as some others of you out there. The alsa driver won't emerge correctly. I've looked at multiple forum posts, but it seems as if no one has actually found an answer for me. When i emerge the file, i get an error that looks like this

Code: Select all

!!!File is Corrupt or Incomplete. (Digests do not match)
>>>Our recorded digest: (numbers and letters)
>>> your files digest: (different numbers and letters)
!!!File does not exist: /usr/portage/distfiles//alsa-driver-1.0.5a.tar.bz2
I noticed that the directory where it's looking for the file is wrong. It should be:

Code: Select all

/usr/portage/distfiles/alsa-driver-1.0.5a.tar.bz2
I checked to see if the file was there, and it is. What can i do to fix this error and get sound?

Btw, i'm running a 2.4 kernel, so i need the driver.

The extra '/' in the path doesn't really matter, portage is looking in the right place.

What the message means is that your alsa-driver-* file is corrupted, it happens :( The good news is (assuming you have an internet connection on the machine), you should be able to 'rm' that file and then re-issue the emerge command (don't forget to set ALSA_CARDS). Emerge will see that the file is no longer there and fetch a new one, cool eh?

If you don't have a connection on the box, find that .tar.bz2 file on ibiblio (or similar mirror) while you're on a computer that does; save it (keep the filename the same) and bring it to your gentoo box via sneakernet... then copy the newly downloaded file over the one listed in your post. Hopefully the MD5's will match this time and you'll be off and running.

I got fed up with that, so i decided to update to kernel 2.6.7. ALSA is working with that... but my Xserver is not. Lol. Thanks for the reply anyways!
