I have quite a strange problem. I can not open www.gentoo.org with konqueror. The firefox works just fine. Any idea ?

kde-3.2.3, complied with gcc-3.4.0.

Thanks.

Actually, I have been having a similar problem with Gnome 2.6 (giving it another try). Epiphany will not open www.gentoo.org, although it will happily open many other websites.
I'm only hanging out in OTW until I get rid of this stupid l33t ranking.....Crap. That didn't work.

1st, change the title of this thread. made me come in here just to flame you. :P (.org, not .com)

2nd, theres something wrong with your isp. dont make a big jiffy out of it, just use proxies like www.guardster.com, which are free.

I will try.

But second thought, if something wrong with the ISP, then firefox should not be able to load the page. Moreover, lynx is working fine too. So It should be some thing related to konqueror.

I am also having this problem with the gentoo.org site.

What I have found
  • It only happens with Linux-Konquerer. I have tested other systems (Mac and Windows) and other browsers on the same computer (Firefox).
  • Linux-Konquerer will work if used with an external web proxy.
  • www.gentoo.org is the only site I have found to have a problem.
  • If I enter the ip address of www.gentoo.org it works fine.
  • It does not happen when I directly connect to the cable modem.
  • It does not happen when I connect to my Linksys router connected to the same cable modem.
  • It only happens when I am using a linux software based router (iptables). All the other browsers tested do work in this configuration.
So I am convinced it is some sort of conflict with Konquerer and my software based router. I will check the logs tomarrow to see if something is showing up when I access www.gentoo.org.

I'm getting the same thing. Konqueror can't open www.gentoo.org, but Firefox can.

I am behind a firewall (a router).

EDIT: KDE 3.2.3, gcc 3.3.3

Great work, Jason :)

I connect to the internet via DSL using Linksys router. However, this problem also occur when I connect the machine to my school network.

BTW, I ping www.gentoo.org and use the IP address instead of webaddress, the konqueror still does not load the page. So I can not confirm that using IP address will work.

Anyway, if you have any thing show up, please post.

Thanks
Tom

There appears to be a fix to this problem in this thread.

What kernel are you using? Basically, it looks like it's a kernel problem. This should fix it:

Code: Select all

sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_moderate_rcvbuf=0 >/dev/null
sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_default_win_scale=0 >/dev/null
