binutils-2.14.90.0.8-r2 fails on 2.6

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Calculating world dependencies ...done!

>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking binutils-2.14.90.0.8.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/binutils-2.14.90.0.8-r2/work
>>> Unpacking binutils-2.14.90.0.8-patches-1.3.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/binutils-2.14.90.0.8-r2/work

!!! ERROR: sys-devel/binutils-2.14.90.0.8-r2 failed.
!!! Function src_unpack, Line 39, Exitcode 1

Anybody have any ideas here? I emerge DU nearly everyday and don't usually have problems.

Not strictly related to the binutils problem, but don't use -U. Use -u instead.

bArtAA: What thebell was refering to was in general terms and not specific to this problem. If you use "-U" instead of "-u" then you will end up breaking your Gentoo. There are several references to this in the forums. If in doubt, read "man emerge".
