crossover office 2.0 and gentoo

From posts on el forums, people seem to have it working, but I'm struggling - I *cannot* install dcom. It comes up with a window saying there was an error registering rpcrt4.dll everytime. I've tried:
  • using dcom95 from Ms, from my office cd and dcom98, and they all give the same result.
  • Running as root (checking permissions
  • installing dcom into a fresh install of wine (no prob) and moving the fake_windows / registry files
  • as above, but using crossover's config file
but nothing works :( Has anyone come across this? Once I have got word working I can free up a good 6/7 gb by killing my xp partition...

-------------------
versions (just in case)
glibc 2.3.1-r4
gcc 3.2.2
xfree 4.3.0-r2
gnome 2.2.1

rpcrt4.dll is a "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) API" library. Sounds like it may be related to Internet Explorer. When I installed office it wanted me to install Internet Explorer first. Did you do that? Did the install ask you to? It may be something to try. The cxoffice setup can download and install internet explorer 6 (sacrilege yes, but it got word and excel working for me, so I couldn't complain... too much ). Anyway, that may be something worth trying if you haven't already. Good luck.

Hmmm. It sounds like that file might not exist... if that is the case you might be able to download it off the internet and place it in the fake_windows/Windows/System directory... Perhaps you could find it here: http://www.dll-files.com/. Maybe worth a shot...

:(
Still no good. Tried using winex as well - no luck there (crashes straight away
I managed to get DCOM98 to install (by invoking /opt/cxoffice/bin/wine by directly), but the office install is still complaining (about the lack of the MS installer)

--edit---
Tried to repeat the above for root, and even invoking it by hand gives errors for root! gah.

maybe user address space limit.

I noticed in the crossover site that errors related to registering rpcrt4.dll can be traced to a kernel config: They say it applies to SuSe, but a kernel is a kernel. Supposedly you should set your user address space to 3GB.

I'm having the same rpcrt.dll and DCOM95 problem using crossover office. When I increase user address space to 3GB, however, I lose network and internet connectivity. Any thoughts on that?
