Problem With configuration

Post by frazze »

Hi! I've tried to install gentoo 2004.1 on my fujitsu Ergopro M, 348Mhz Pentium II with 64Mb RAM.

And i cant get it to work correctly. After install from stage3 i686 (using genkernel) and emerging xfree and xfce my emerge fails with mozilla and gnome etc.. but emerge nedit and som other stuff works! I have looked around in the forum to find someting that will help me. But i dont know where to start! currently im using slackware with no problems, iv also had Windows 9X-2000 working and redhat, freebsb. so what do you think is the problem.

i really want to get Gentoo working!

Post some error messages and maybe someone can help you out. Be more specific!

The problem is that i need to work on my computer so when it doesent work i have to install a difrent os (slackware for now). So it kind of hard to get som errror messages. But what i can remember it said something like this when i emerge gdm, mozilla, gnome.

function_src compile error!

iv tried to change my c_flags accordingly what has been written in other threads but nothing seems to work!

sorry that i cant be more specific! maybe if i ask you!

it is right to choose stage3-i686 as my stage

on my cpu it is written mmx does this make any diffrent!

do you think it should be another result if i shoose to do a stage1 install and compile my kernel not using genkernel!

hm im kind of new with linux and gentoo so im having some problems to know what to ask and where to begin! should i install gentoo again to be able to post som error messages?

i have intstalld gentoo to a couple of other computers and it works fine so i realy would like to use it on this computer as well!

AFAIK a Pentium II is i586, not i686.

Try it with the x86 stage (stage3-x86-2004.1.tar.bz2)
If you're still getting errors, post them in the forums.

Pentium II is 686.

The original Pentium was 586.

pixie: Um, you're right.

frazze: Try it with the x86 stage anyway. Maybe it works.
