I would like to send system mail to a vpopmail account is this possable?
right now messages to root are sent to the local account sysadmin account however the user sysadmin never gets the mail. I get a double bounce saying
Sorry, I couldn't find any host named localhost.mydomain.com
mail shouldent go to sysadmin@localhost.mydomain.com it should be sysadmin@mydomain.com (however localhost.mydomain.com is in my hosts file)
what have I done wrong here? anyone have a similar problem?

What are the contents of:
/var/qmail/control/defaultdelivery
/var/qmail/control/locals
/var/qmail/control/me
/var/qmail/control/plusdomain
/var/qmail/control/rcpthosts
?
I don't remember exactly which controls this, or if it is a combination, but I believe the answer lies there. On a simple installation, all of those will likely report 'mydomain.com'. If any include the localhost before that, it could be your problem.
