Reset IP and DNS

  • Quote

Post by HCJes » Wed May 26, 2004 1:47 pm

I started the installation at home.
My home network (DHCP) uses 192.168.0.xxx / subnet 255.255.255.0
DNS 192.168.0.1

I hibernated my computer to take it to work, however, I cannot finish the installation because the network is not the same.
Net work here (DHCP) is 10.xxx.xxx.xxx and subnet 255.0.0.0
DNS 10.1.10.12
gateway 10.1.3.1

I could not get DHCP to reset using the eth0 down/up commands so I tried setting a static IP of 10.5.100.2.

I can ping computers on our network however cannot get to the internet. Need to be able to get to the internet to finish the EMERGE stuff.
I am at the point of emerge grub

What should I do?

Did you add your default gateway when manually configuring the network ?

Code: Select all

route add default gw 10.1.3.1

Thanks for the quick reply.
I did that, however, I still get unknown host when I try to ping www.yahoo.com. Inside is still working fine.

How do I change my DNS, I believe this may be the final step. My DNS at home was 192.168.0.1
here it is 10.1.10.12

Thanks,
Jes

in

Code: Select all

I still got host unreachable. I decided to reboot w/ the live cd.
I then loaded my Ethernet, and redid net-setup eth0.

I didn't want to have to remount everything, however, at this mount it was faster then trying to repair my ethernet connection.

Thanks for all your help.
