I need to find a UML diagramming software for my gentoo to start developing some new project, i use to have MagicDraw but the license expired. What do you recommend?
is there anyone in the portage?
I need to do use case, sequence, class and state diagrams.

Any comments about the programs would be appreciated

There's dia, a simple (ish) gtk app, and there's also umbrello, which comes with kde 3.2 in kdesdk. I think you can also get it standalone for kde 3.1.

I think also an app called kivio (in koffice) can do it too, but it's not as good.

If you install eclipse you can install an additional plugin that will give it UML capabilities. Check out eclipse.org

I emerged umbrello, but it isnt as intuitive as the others UML softwares i knew, is there a standard in the format of the output files? do you really suggest umbrello for a big project?

btw, whats the difference with umbrello and kdesdk? whats in there?

ArgoUML is another one.

ArgoUML works pretty good. There is also poseidon which is based on ArgoUML. I used it for my last project using Java Webstart.

I used Poseidon (based on ArgoUML) for my last C/C++ embedded project. I used static structure diagrams and state diagrams. It was a small project but I don't like to work on software like that without some design docs ahead of time. I am getting old and need help. Writing it down in UML helps me a lot.
