Where did you get it from? His own site doesn't seem to have any download links, and according to kaput it doesn't seem to be any ebuilds for it either :)

i fetched it from cvs

Code: Select all

cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/enlightenment login
when it ask for a password, you just press enter

Code: Select all

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/enlightenment co misc/engage
then you "cd misc/engage"
./autogen.sh && make && make install

When I go to run autogen.sh, it tells me I need to install esmart. So, I emerge esmart, and it gives me this error message:

Code: Select all

# emerge esmart
Calculating dependencies
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "esmart" have been masked.
!!! possible candidates are:
- x11-libs/esmart-0.9.0.20040515 (masked by: ~keyword)

!!! Error calculating dependencies. Please correct.
What should I do?

No problem. If you like to live dangerously, you can put that in /etc/make.conf. I do, and I haven't had a problem yet. >^..^<

In case you haven't figured it out, you're actually emerging a good portion of the e17 libraries (which are required to build esmart).

Anyways, I'm not one for eye candy, but I must say I'm slightly impressed. While I doubt I'll be running e17 in the future, I might try that startup bar down the road ;)

I don't think there will be real transparency until XFree or X.org have it (I know Xserver has it, but it's still not realistic for most people to use).

According to http://aje.codewordt.co.uk/Software/Engage.xml
As you can see this is not transparent, but so things must be for non-hacked backgrounds! To get back our nice transparencies another mode was added to allow nice alpha blending using ESmart...

Well, what about evas? I've never figured out what is was all about...
I've always thought it was supposed to be a full screen opengl window, that could provide real transparency effects to applications. An evas window manager could then import/manage normal X apps into the opengl window.

Correct?

Yea, I looked at that a few months ago...It is nice and it needs kde. I doesn't work and is not really meant to work outside of KDE environment. But still a nice concept. This appears to work on almost any WM...nice for us who dont use KDE.

Sure you have to install libs but at least they are not a pain to install
