scsi dvd/cdr media not recognized

Post by crashman » Tue Oct 29, 2002 2:24 am

I can't get any programs to recognize cd's in my dvd or cdr drives. xcdroast keeps saying I have a blank cdr disk when I have a music cd in.

It used to work, but then I recompiled my kernel and now this. I must have screwed up the config somehow but I don't know what I did. I have checked menuconfig and it looks right to me.

I have the right scsi driver (my hard disks wouldn't work if I didn't).
I have scsi cdrom support built in.
I enabled vendor specific extesions.
I have scsi generic support built in.

My system is a dual athlon Tyan Thunder K7
The scsi is onboard and is a dual Adaptec 7899 using the aic7xxx driver
I have 4 scsi hd's on bus 0 working perfectly
I have a scsi tape drive (Exabyte 8505) on bus 1
Pioneer DVD-305s on bus 1
Plextor 12/10/32s cdr on bus 1

Like I said earlier, everything worked before, so I must have borked it somehow.

Thanks in advance.

I did some further checking and here are the results:

cdrecord -scanbus finds all devices (as root)
I can mount and read data cd's in either drive (dvd and cdr)

I just have problems with music cd's

I found a cd writer that works for me! Its called Gnome CD Master. It can read and write with my drives. I guess my setup is fine, just the programs I was using sucked.
