Why is my hdd going berserk?

Still need help with Gentoo, and your question doesn't fit in the above forums? Here is your last bastion of hope.

Why is my hdd going berserk?

Im not doing anything just browsing the forums, and my hdd is going berserk? My root partition is resierfs, anyone getting the same crap? Its annoying me, because back then when i was using windows it used to do the same.

So what is actually your problem ?

Could you just describe it in detail, failure messages or kinds of ... ?

Nothing like that, it stopped now, but it comes like once a day, im doing nothing but the hdd just goes berserk for some 30 mins and it slows down shit, not much, but like opening new windows and stuff is slower.

So you mean, there is access on the hdd but not from yourself ?
Have the same thing ... just thought of it being some journaling activities or something....

May this be true ?

Check your logs? What services are you running? Could be lots of messages being generated by something... checking email? Could be some processes spawning stuff... could be swapping to disc for some reason... Who knows, try to be more specific about what is happening at the time

It's probably the cron job running updatedb, the thing that updates the database for locate.
