Tis the least I can do for the man who created the best distro I've ever used and the one that has me very very close to ditching Windows (I still love Age of Empires too much).
Daniel, if you're reading this, thank you very very much for all the blood, sweat and tears you have put into Gentoo, it has changed my computing experience in a big way! If you tackle your future projects with half the passion you did Gentoo, things can only go well!
I'd promised myself at the beginning of the year that once I found a distro I really liked, I'd donate for its support. So $50 I sent to Daniel. I thought about buying a CD but decided against it because 1) I don't need it and 2) Daniel would have to pay shipping (I think?) which would cut some of his profits.
I will help with a donation aswell, never noticed the donate thing before or I would have donated some in the past aswell. Gentoo made me enjoy linux again and still is enjoying it after two years. I never found a distro that didn't annoy me and always ended up using windows more than debian/suse/etc, but then came Gentoo
I'm not sure why he didn't ask earlier. Maybe a pride thing? There's no shame in asking for donations to a project so many people are willing to donate for.
I'd be shocked if there wasn't enough community and commercial support to give Daniel a nice payday to continue what he does best. Hopefully he reconsiders.
Have been using gentoo for a short time , and because of it i switched to linux full time. I usualy hang around the #gentoo channel , and might I add , I never had a question unawnsered for the most dumb it could be. The comunity is awesome , the product is great , but indeed we lost our soul now. Have no clue what will happen now , indeed the board and all the dev's will try their best t make gentoo sucefull but they will have to follow their own way of doing things , and that will unlikely will be drobbins way and the comunity way , lets just see what the future will send us.
Btw , bought a cd set last week , couldnt donate now because I'm a student from brazil , and that turns things lots expensive to donate.
I started gentoo about 5 months ago after reading about portage and the ease of it. I've completely converted to linux because of it, minus gaming. Course i'm doing it on a seperate computer, a older p3 500. but its still my primary computer over my new amd 2800 etc new computer. Its just that nice and easy to use.
20 donated, and a cd set as well here.
up to....
