software to record internet radio broadcast?

  • Quote

Post by nlightn » Fri Jan 16, 2004 11:05 pm

I am interested in capturing/recording a live streaming internet radio broadcast (specifically one from www.shoutcast.com). I know this is possible, because the station I listen to recommends on their website to record a broadcast if you like it and/or want to reproduce it. The only problem is that all the software they recommend is for Windows. Thanks in advance from this non-Audiophile.

This will save an mp3 stream

Code: Select all

mpg123 -s http://64.236.34.196:80/stream/1040 | lame -r -s 44100 -m s -x -b 112 - out.mp3
Just modify the lame options to encode as you wish. The following uses mplayer to save a stream into a wav file. Usefull for asf, wmv, some rmf, etc.

Code: Select all

mplayer -srate 44100 -ao pcm -aofile output.wav -vo null input.wmv
Hope that works :)

Interseting ... I knew I could do it with mplayer, and just looked in the man page.
here is how to do it (sample station: Radio FG in france, an mp3 stream @128Kbits)

Code: Select all

mplayer http://lsac1-0-s04.shoutcast.net:8004/ -cache 128 -dumpaudio -dumpfile file.mp3
then when you're finished type CTRL+C and the stream is in file.mp3.

I wouldn't imagine it is so simple !

[EDIT] my method doesn't recompress the stream: it is the original strem, so the quality is slightly better as you don't decode and rencode with different options

You could also try streamripper. It's in portage and seemed to do a pretty good job when I used it before. It can also dump individual song names, etc.

Good luck,

Nice, thx! I truely missed this...

I am wondering if there is an approach like the 'mpg123' example, but with 'ogg123' instead? If so, what is the command? I looked at the ogg123 man-page but I'm not good with multiple flags + input :(
--- checking for native Win32 platform... no
