Warning: could not generate /etc/modprobe.conf!

I'm pretty new to linux and gentoo in particular. For the last several days I've been trying to get a stage2 install of Gentoo 2004.0 for AMD64 to work on my machine. I follow the excellent instructions to the letter, but the same problem rears it's ugle head eachtime. I run 'make && make modules_install'. Everything goes fine, but after editing my /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 file and running modules-update I get this error everytime, 'Warning: could not generate /etc/modprobe.conf!'

Any ideas?

Just a guess but did you enable loadable module support in your kernel?

yep. It was enabled.

Well, I fixed it by skipping the modules-update step and returning to it after installing grub et all and rebooting. All works fine now.
