eyoung100,
What browser are you using, exactly? I don't see anything wrong with the formatting in Firefox. Also, you've reported your own post. If this is truly the post you're complaining about, you can edit it yourself.
Edit: Ah. Chrome. Will have to emerge that to check. Are you using www-client/google-chrome or www-client/chromium?

I'm using Chrome on Windows XP, and the Topic s stretched an unngodly amount to the right, due to a misplaced bbtag that isn't in any of my posts in this thread _________________ The Birth and Growth of Science is the Death and Atrophy of Art -- Unknown

So, would you mind reporting the offending post so I know what to look at, please? I'm emerging chromium now.

So, I'm emerging chrome but it's a monster; it'll probably finish some time tonight. Secondly, neither one of those posts appear to have misplaced bbcode tags. Finally, post 7260512 is your post. If it's the only one misformatted in that thread, could you experiment with editing it yourself, please? As soon as I can, I'll look at it in Chrome.

Split from Report violations, duplicates, misplaced posts, etc. as it's worth keeping this topic around if other people hit the same issue.
There are no extra tags in the post or anything like that, it's just that Chrome renders the [code] bbcode differently from Firefox. In Chrome it shows each line continuously until it reaches the end-of-line (EOL) character, which gives very long lines, as shown in your post. In Firefox it splits these lines on the space character, so that they wrap.
As phpBB centres the code blocks, if there are any which are smaller than the long one in Chrome they appear to be positioned to the right.
Until we move to phpBB3 there's not much you can do other than to add some line breaks into the [code] block(s) that's the horizontal scrolling. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

My apologies.
I was going to point out right after seeing the report at the topic where things are reported that it happens with Opera too (12.14_p1738 at the time or writing). It might be a bit more swift to emerge. I've noticed it happening before, long time ago, but probably imagined others would take care of it and/or I figured it was just me...
Anyblue, I guess this is a tad late now...
Sorry; I guess I simply forgot!
Edit:
Thanks tomk for the explanation. I always wondered why it happens exactly, as I don't know enough about phpBB myself (yet) to figure this kind of things out. ^^; _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

Testing from one system here on the examples linked, I get the same effect in google-chrome, opera, and epiphany. Firefox renders fine. So, I presume it's possibly a webkit rendering engine issue with opera being the exception. _________________ Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. |

I hate to ask - but isn't [code] supposed to display as entered? If so, is it a bug to not wrap long lines? (I admit this is an interaction between the bbcode tags and how they get implemented as html, and how the browser displays it, but ..... That seems to be the primary issue. Code and Quote blocks seem to be done as a table with 90% width of the page. If the long lines are wrapped, then the page width is as expected. If they are not wrapped, the page is VERY wide, and code and quote blocks that don't need the full width (and are centered) appear to be unnecessarily indented. |

Heh. Since this is a formatting issue and given that CSS/HTML variants remain at best 'recommendations' than actual standards anyone follows, uh, sorry, no thanks on that can of worms. Besides:
1. Without seeing the external template definitions for class="genmed" and class="code" and understanding exactly how this might be affecting table element alignment attribute properties in said browser engines' rules with proven test cases, I wouldn't presume to even attempt or desire to file a claim on a useful bug report.
2. If we go by majority rule line of thinking, then mozilla must be either 'fast and loose' in their adhearence and the rest are playing correct. Unfortunately it's kind of a who knows and I find w3.org rather dry reading. And this is such a decade+ old argument now = religion/politics. Best to avoid those.
3. I'm pretty certain from gleaming over the sheer volume of existing open bug reports on webkit and their initial suggestions before reporting that: a) this has already been mentioned in some convoluted fashion (phpBB usage+at least 3 popular browsers==fun), b) if acknowledged, that they will vaguely argue against it being them at issue, c) or say go away and rebuild from latest release (this is called making your users the testers). And Opera, who has more often than not boasted about following the recommendations moreso than the rest, what about them? I don't see webkit mentioned in their about info, more mozilla oriented than not.
4. Just on a search regarding table alignment webkit CSS and phpBB, the argument may be made at the phpBB side in phpBB support forums, as tomk hinted earlier.
5. Thread was looking for additional acknowledgements of the me-too and what variety. Hence my feedback.
6. I've spent way more time on this than planned. You opened this thread. You should have the honors.
And their bug report area is a scary mess that makes Gentoos seem neat. Anyway, https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82074 may be related. _________________ Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. |

Admins, sorry. Please remove my duplicate posts as the temporary server errors and other eventually errored responses (php oriented I presume) implied the post didn't commit.
No worries. Done. — JRG
Correction on Opera since I can't leave chasing this rabbit well enough alone
I forgot that with the Opera binary, dev-qt/qtwebkit is a dependency. So, we're back to my original guess. _________________ Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. |
