DTS audio in totem does not work properly

Hi,
I have a problem with most .mkv files with DTS audio. In totem, I can hear music only, but no voices (they are very very silent).
In VLC I had to use dts flag to play it correctly.
I have tried mplayer (GUI gnome-mplayer) as well, and there is no problem with playing (even with dts disabled).
I guess I have the same problem like here http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-78 ... audio.html, but there is no solution

how far are you this ?? i have got the problem that only VLC can play DTS/AC3/DD but with severe audio issues. the stream seams to be interrupted and so i get sound lags which last approximately 2 seconds.it does not matter whether the source file is avi,mkv or vob.

and in all other players like totem,kaffeine,kplayer,smplayer,kmplayer i simply can not turn on the DTS/AC3/DD option. mplayer always crahes when playing those codecs but i could not yet figure out why. in totem i don`t know how to turn on SPDIF output and setting EDIT/PREFERENCES/AUDIO/AUDIO OUTPUT to AC3 PASSTHROUGH does not work either.

any ideas or experiences ?
