xawtv not using whole window

I am trying to setup an ATI AIW 128 with the gatos drivers and xawtv, which I have done before, but not in Gentoo. My problem is that when everything is setup and should be working, xawtv doesn't use the whole window for playing the tv. It starts at the top left corner and correctly fills around 80% of the window with the tv channel, but there is about 20% on the bottom and right sides that isn't used. It's just garbage inside. Does anyone know what could be happening?
I am using Xawtv v 3.88 and XFree86 v 4.3.0 with the perbuilt binaries from the gatos website.
