I try to use the nvidia driver in my xf86config (yes i have emerged the GLX and KERNEL).
Before, I could start X and do the stuff in there, but everytime I tried to log out (or change tty) the thing froze giving me a bland screen.
Now, it freezes even when I try to start X. Anyone got a clue what the prob could be?
Using: Geforce 3 Ti4200, Athlon-processor and a VIA-motherbord. |

Hi,
A lot of users have experienced this, and I am one of them. I've had lockups on my GF4 for over a year now and everything has been discussed in details over at the nvidia driver forums.
I found a (kind of) temporary fix that other people there have tested and seems to work: whenever you boot your computer, do NOT leave your tv-out cable plugged-in. Once X is started, you can plug it back in and out as you wish. TV-out still works fine if configured properly.

the solution is to NOT run kernelside framebuffer for riva or nvidia and instead just have VESA fb compiled in.
i think this breaks nvtv's ability to turn on and use the TV though. |
