I've been looking for a CD/DVD burning program, what do you recommend? I've been using xcdroast for a while, but I don't like the looks of the gui. Also, it segfaults on startup... very odd.

So, what do you recommend?

CD: cdrecord
DVD: growisofs (if you use DVD+R)

I don't Joke, it is really easier, mkisofs + one of those tools is the easiest and most comfortable way...

Personally I use cdrecord + mkisofs for whatever I burn, use k3b if you find this too hard.

Thanks. I was looking for a GUI program. I've been a command line guy for ages, but now I'm going to retire from that field.

I see that 'emerge k3b' wants to upgrade my freetype from version 1.3.1 to 2.1.4. I don't like upgrades, what if this breaks something else? Is it difficult to remove k3b and revert to the previous version of freetype then?

Freetype 1.3.1 and 2.1.4 are able to coexist on your system, so you will still have your older version of Freetype.

k3b.org has a script which downloads and builds k3b-0.10-cvs.

DVD+rw and DVD-rw burning is included.

Hi

I wouldn't be worried about anything breaking - When I obey this simple rule

Quote:
~x86 = b0rk

everything works just fine, whatever I do, with Gentoo. (Ha! I'm a poet and I didn't realise it) But do remember to do etc-update, and don't just go "-3"

Moved from Desktop Environments-

I run a ~x86 system without problems. The rule to follow is a bit more complex: '~arch' ebuilds "should" work, 'arch' ebuilds "have" to work (kinda).

"b0rk" packages should be masked in package.mask.

oh yeah ?!?!

If I try to emerge k3b on my rebuilt system (fluxbox only) I get:

12:50:16 swimmer@swimmer ~> emerge k3b -pv

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
... skipping all the libs ...
[ebuild N ] kde-base/kde-env-3-r2
[ebuild N ] kde-base/arts-1.1.2 +alsa +oggvorbis -artswrappersuid
[ebuild N ] kde-base/kdelibs-3.1.2-r1 +alsa +cups -ipv6 +ssl
[ebuild N ] kde-base/kdebase-3.1.2 -ldap +pam +motif +encode +oggvorbis +cups +ssl +opengl -samba +java
[ebuild N ] app-cdr/k3b-0.8.1-r1 -debug

A *lot* of KDE I'd say ;-)

I have tried to emerge dvdrtools but i can't reach the nongnu server. Can anyone suggest an alternative way of getting this package. I am having problems writing dvds with my dvd writer. I'm sure i need thisd package or is there a way of configuring xcdroast to write to dvd?

All the scsi etc is fine

Thanks
