Hello all,

Not sure if this goes here or in hardware...

I was able to get a logitech quickcam messenger running with the gspcav1 driver. When I log in as root and load the module, lsusb lists the camera. I have tested it with spcaview and it works fine, so it isn't a hardware problem. When I log out and log back in as my normal user, sudo lsusb no longer lists the camera and dmesg tells me that the usb device at the port where the camera is plugged in is disconnected. My regular user is a member of the video, plugdev, and usb group, so I though there should not be a problem. My only guess is that this is a hal problem, but i am not sure how to fix it. Do I need to write a .fdi file? Does anyone have any ideas?

If you need me to post any information, please let me know and I can do it tonight as it is on my computer at home.

Thanks for any help!

IIRC lsusb accesses the kernel more or less directly (no hal etc.) so that should work fine. Especially as sudo means it's running as root. Is the module still loaded when you run lsmod as a normal user? Is the camera powering down after some idle time? Is the plug loose??

Thanks for replying - oddly enough, it seems to work just fine now - maybe something was loose. Thanks though!
