|
|
Howdy all. I was recently given a DVD of a video for my band. I'd like to rip the video off of the DVD and convert it to a small (yet, hopefully fairly clear) format to put on our band's website.
Based on past, but very limited, experience. I think I can get an .avi off of my DVD, but it's going to be massive. I've had some experience in the past re-encoding avis with different codecs to make them real small. However, that experience (and it was very limited) was all in MS-land. What are some linux apps that I need to check out? |

mplayer can do what you want.
i cant remember the exact options off hand, but i know its possible becuase ive done it before.
you want to do something like :
mplayer -dvd 1 -o out.avi
then you can use mencoder to encode it to a smaller filesize:
mencoder -ao mp3lame -vo xvid out.avi
(i know i might be totally off with this, but its all in the man page)
also, there are programs such as: dvdrip and quickrip, both in portage. |

check out my app QuickRip. Version 0.7 is in portage, and 0.8-rc1 is available from here.
It will let you rip the DVD tracks to AVI files, of any size you choose, with various other options, and it's easy to use |
