I would like to buy hauppauge hvr 900 tv tuner. According to hauppauge http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/products/data_hvr900.html
it requires "Minimum processor recommended: 2.0 GHz P4 or equivalent (2.8 GHz processor for analogue TV recording with MPEG-2)."
I have a pentium M centrino 1.6Ghz. Will it work without problems on my laptop?
Anyone has experience with this tv tuner and which software is needed to work properly. I have so far mplayer and vlc. |

Even playing back HDTV quality stuff takes tons of processing power. I suppose you will have to try it to see if it works. Won't be surprised if your video skips, and you won't be able to do much when watching HDTV.
If you are not watching HDTV then it will probably (90% chance) work. _________________ An apple is an apple unless you say it is not an apple! |

I don't have hdtv here. I don't intend to record, because there is nothing worth recording. I only have cable tv here. |

Hi,
Sorry for digging this old thread but did you finally buy the card? Did you make it to work under Gentoo?
Cheers,

I bought hauppauge pvr-usb2. And it works under gentoo.
Don't know if your version uses ivtv driver, but if it is, then upgrade to latest kernel and you can emerge ivtv.
