When invoking any command with gksudo or gksu I get an entry "granting rights" in the taskbar, sometimes also an entry for the command I wanted to start and then both vanish. Without any error, notice or message whatsoever. I have no clue where I can even start to look for clues.
Any help is appreciated.

I have the same problem (e.g. with gksu nautilus); it is funny, but gksu gnome-terminal works fine.

I tried to run the same command from gnome-terminal and see the following (afterwards nothing happens and I have to cancel the program with ctrl+c):

Quote:

(nautilus:27377): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.

Regards,
Stefan

Same problem. Noticed that my "/etc/gksu.conf" did not exist...

Dunno what's wrong. I unmerged gksu then remerged again. And now it works, but gdmsetup does not work anymore... like even as root (used xhost +):
DISPLAY=:0.0 gdmsetup
hangs forever without any error message...
This used to work... Not my comp so I'll just give up on this for now.

Not such big a deal anyway, thanks for the reply.

Have you tried: 'gksu dbus-launch gdmsetup' ?

See this thread for more details.

OK let me try that. The hack with DISPLAY works though. Thanks for the line in sudoers.

EDIT: yay!
Code:
gksu dbus-launch gdmsetup
works! ;) Thanks for that.

I got the warning but it doesn't prevent gedit from starting.

Make this a login shell. Beware this may cause problems with the
Xauthority magic. Run xhost to allow the target user to open
windows on your display!
