help track down bad FPS (fglrx ati radeon)

I need some help finding out why my computer can only push out ~ 100 FPS in glxgears, while past (older) drivers would return ~2500 FPS. I cannot figure this out. The older drivers that seemd to kick ass are at least half a year old now, so I dont think installing them is an option. Here is my related fglrx info and all that good stuff: thankyou for your help.

8.30 driver isnt that old.....
Its really hard to solve this because this version isn't even in the portage yet..
You probably need to ask people in the ATI forum to get it solved.

I'm having exactly the same problem; I've changed nothing except done regular updates, so I'm wondering if it's a X org 7.1 problem? What order are you loading your modules; namely fglrx, intel-agp (or equiv), agpgart, ati-agp?

I am running an x86 system. I have the same results no matter what *recent* driver I use.

I modprobe nvidia-agp, and agpgart first. fglrx is always the last module to load

Seems the same as me, excpet I load agpgart first. I'll try the reverse in a bit.

Could someone help with this as it seems to be a common issue. I've tried
x11-drivers/ati-drivers 8.27.10-r1 and ~8.28.8

downgrading xorg-x11 from 7.1 to 7.0-r1

This did work in the past and must have broken as part of a recent emerge -uD world, as all of the kernel options are the same. I've played around with the order of the module loading which is currently

fglrx 384236 8
intel_agp 17692 1
agpgart 25096 2 fglrx,intel_agp

I've removed the ati-agp, because I don't think that's required. The drivers have obviously been recognised, as shown below.

have you tried this;

I think this could be the problem. What are you /etc/make.conf VIDEO_CARD settings? What I can't understand is what AIGLX is doing there?

BUMP This is really annoying. I think the solution may lie with downgrading Xorg to 7.0, but I can't get this to work.
