I've got a SB!Live 5.1 Soundcard!
Today I wanted to get rid of the ugly sound of the 2.4.20 emu10k1 drivers.
First I tried to use ALSA, it worked fine, i was able to load the modules without any problems.
I started to test the new drivers with xmms! Now i get a beauthiful clear sound, but only on my right front speaker! Even if i set the belance to full left i don't get a tone out of my left front speaker (or any other one)!
After browsing goolge and this forum a bit i recognized, that many people have problems with emu10k1-compatible soundcards and asla so i tried to use the creative emu10k1 drivers (emerge emu10k1 and later emerge -C emu10k1 && emerge emu10k1-cvs) but with both of them i get exactly the same error: Brilliant sound but only on my right front speaker!
Now i switched back to the kernel drivers and now i have ugly sound on my 2 front speakers!
Does anyone have an idea?
Thank anyway! |

i use an sblive 5.1 platinum with the dirver support built into my 2.4.20 kernel (not as a module) and it sounds fine in kde using arts. and actually.. i believe i have a "-alsa" in my make.conf use |

I'm having the same problems. Basically I can't get my full speaker setup to work under Linux. I tried to load the ALSA drivers with no success. I'm using emu10k1 right now...

make sure your mixer settings are set up right;
also, configure your /etc/emu10k1.conf that comes with the emu10k1-cvs drivers, and rerun emu-script. |

I had the same problem but with the oss driver, I couldn't get it to play on the 4 so I installed alsa and it worked much easier, you have to mute "SB Live Analog/Digital Output Jack" in alsamixer to have the 4 speakers work together. |

Entering
in /etc/local.start resolved the problem when a friend of mine experienced the same problem as you did (-z clears all effects applied).
There should probably be a better solution involving the config-files, but those who can settle for a quick and dirty fix might want to try this one. |
