Do you think gentoo-forums need a post-enumeration in topics? (#1, #2, #3, ...) |
Yes, I've seen this on other forums and it's a must-have! |

No, I think the search-function is enough |

Hi there,
first I have to say: great forum & big thanks to the team
But now to my request:
would it be possible to number the posts of a topic:
e.g.:
- I post a new topic "Why gentoo's great"
- 2 people write after me
my post is called "#1" or first and the post of the 1st person after me "#2" or "second" ... so on
in that way it would be much easier to refer to a post in big topic with for example 50 posts
-> ok, you can search through the topic via the search-function but I think the enumeration would be an additional help to navigate pretty fast to the post someone refers to
thanks in advance for you reply |

Well, every post already has a number: for instance your post is #3266899 and your thread #455084 (check the difference in the two urls); actually just a few people post the link to the message they are referring to, but I think that in a thread with a lot of pages it would be enough to use that.

There already is a way to refer to a particular post in a thread. To the left of the top of a post (the part that mentions: Posted: Day Month, Year Time ...) there is a little icon of a piece of paper.
By clicking on it (or hovering) you can find the exact post number and so refer people to that post, instead of the beginning of the thread. |

You can get the link to a particular post from the little page icon next to the 'Posted: date' at the top of a post. You can also use the [post] bbcode tag for direct linking to a post. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

Well, thanks for your answers:
hm, I read sometime about this function but obviously not accurately enough !
It's great that the forum has such an option, but in my opinion it's a little hidden for noobs like me: I mean if I don't know about it I surely won't find it, perhaps only be chance
(I hope that you understand what I mean, sorry for the sometimes strange "style" I use, I'm not a native english speaker ) |

"Yes, I've seen this on other forums and [think it would be nice to have]."
I thought about trying to add it, but phpbb code sucks for learning, so I won't be tackling it anytime soon. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
