|

I've a working alsa / arts configuration, but I can't control all the channels I see in alsamixer. I've seen some autoconf flags for kdemultimedia for alsa support ... I'm not sure if the ebuild uses this flag. I'm sure I defined the alsa USE flag ...
Usually I don't need all of the channels but it's annoying that I can't control my IEC958 TTL channel (SPDIF) from KDE...
In short:
alsamixer can control (way!) more channels than kmix. |

I'm afraid you're going to have to do a feature request with the authors of kmix... |

gentoo kdemultimedia filters alsa use flag I guess because errors in ktimidity. this makes kmix work in oss mode. I have enabled alsa flags manually for kmix compilation. this works for me. |

Yes, it's 39574 in bugs.kde.org. It was opened on 20 March 2002, and is still status: NEW.
It seems that this is another one of those minority interest areas in KDE, so there's no real incentive to the developers to do anything about it. If you like, you can sign up for an account on bugs.kde.org and then vote for this bug. If enough people vote for it, it might get some attention. Otherwise, I don't expect it to be fixed until after kernel 2.6 with native ALSA comes out (and even then, they might just say 'use OSS emulation'). |

I suppose he didn't...
R2DTU tries to explain that kde multimedia ignores the alsa use flag, because of errors in ktimidity. |
