cdrom audio playback problem

I have a plexwriter 24x10x40 cd writer, for some reason it will not play audio cds the drive doesn't even spin it just loads the tracks when i play in xmms and starts counting the timer on each track no audio no nothing, my analog cable is plugged in I have checked the drive and the ide cables everything is working properly but this doesn't seem to work at all. It just stopped randomly one day, I have also checked the mixer levels. Any help would be much appreciated!
