g'day,
i got xine-ui to install without a hitch.
however, when i try to play a dvd i get this...
"-xine engine error-
there is no input plugin available to handle
'dvd://VIDEO_TS.VOB'
maybe MRL syntax is wrong or file/stream doesn't exist.'
anybody able to help? i would be grateful.

g'day,
thanks for your reply giles.
i did as suggested and something did happen.
the error mesaage changed from the aforementioned...
"-xine engine error-
there is no input plugin available to handle
'dvd://VIDEO_TS.VOB'
maybe MRL syntax is wrong or file/stream doesn't exist.'
to....
"-xine engine error-
there is no input plugin available to handle
'dvd://VTS_01_1.VOB'
maybe MRL syntax is wrong or file/stream doesn't exist.'
edit: i'm doing the below now.
is there a way to merge all the plugins @ once?
regards,
glenn

Don't know..
Do you have "dvd" in your USE flags?
You probably need an mpeg library. _________________ ^<^>^<^>^

I would guess that you don't have a /dev/dvd device. This is the xine default. If you do an ls -la /dev/dvd what does it show? If your dvd player is hdc you can create a link as follows.
ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd
You also need to emerge libdvdcss.

You need to install libdvdread and libdvdcss before installing xine-lib and xine-ui _________________ If rubbin cold dirt in your crotch is wrong - I don't wanna be right! |

If you install the latest (masked) xine then dvdnav etc is installed as if by magic and is now under the "dvd" option in xine as opposed to the old "nav" option.

g'day,
you wouldn't bloody well believe it. got to the point where xine was real fine and the #@%&$#%$ cdrw/dvd combo has shit itself ...again. this is the 3rd time in a 16 month old dell i8100, that this has happened. have also had the hard drive replaced also need a new keyboard ( pegged out 2 days after warranty expired). *sigh*
i think i qualify for a "loser of the week" citation.
so for the time being, the additional suggestions will have to be academic. lol.
tthx for all the input
man, bummer. i only got to watch 3 of the 6 episodes of "the hitchikers guide to the galaxy" befor combo commited deviceicide.
