PostPosted: Mon Nov 28, 2005 9:22 pm    Post subject: dvb newbie - who can help me to get my dvb card running Reply with quote

people all what i want is to watch tv with my technotrend dvb 1.5 ff.(im unfortunately too stupid to do that alone)
i have installed vdr , mplayer , kmplayer , xine , xine-lib , kdetv , kaffeine , tvtime . but nothing works szap. :(
xine and xine-lib i have installed with: "USE="dvb" emerge.....

i have download firmware and copy it in "/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware"

Code:

tux b # modprobe dvb-ttpci
tux b # cd /etc/conf.d/
tux conf.d # vdr
vdr: no primary device found - using first device!
tux conf.d #

Code:

xine -p dvb://

------------------->>> xine engine error - there is no input plugin available to handle dvb://. maybe MRL syntax is wrong or file/stream source doesn't exist
............................................................................................
mostly is this input plugin reason.
i dont know what to do.since 7 days im trying to run it.(unsuccessful)
.................................................................................
tell me what i have to do. and what do you wanna know about my computer.
many thanks

/lib/firmware works here. Don't know about /lib/hotplug.

i have tried both possibility - without success.

on this site:
http://linuxtv.org/downloads/dvb/firmware/

i can download several diferent firmaware.
i have tried with 261f and 2622. i dont know whether one of them is incompatible with my driver.

there is too:

"
3. AV7110
---------
The files are named dvb-ttpci-VV.fw-vvvv

VV : Version of firmware-to-host API. You can simply upgrade
the firmware binary with a newer one of the same API
version without changing anything else in the driver.
vvvv: Firmware version. Increased with each functional change.

It is recommended that you use the newest firmware binary
compatible with your driver. If you use the hotplug firmware loader
in Linux 2.6 you must put the firmware file in
/lib/firmware/dvb-ttpci-01.fw (in previous versions of the Linux
hotplug scripts it was /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/dvb-ttpci-01.fw)."

therefore "if i use the hotplug firmware loader" i have to put it in /lib/firmware/ -
i dont use hotplug firmware loader - i'll try to install that now.

http://linuxtv.org/downloads/dvb/firmware/dvb-ttpci-01.fw-2622

Copy it to /lib/firmware/dvb-ttpci-01.fw

You need hotplug firmware loading support in your kernel and hotplug emerged.

i have copy it in /lib/firmware/
and i have emerged hotplug

i have checked my kernel config . i thing that is it what we talk about:

Loadable module support
---------- [X] Enable loadable module support
---------------------------[X] Module unloading
------------------------------------[X] Force module unloading
---------------------------[ ] Module versioning support (EXPERIMENTAL)
---------------------------[ ] Source checksum for all modules
---------------------------[ ] Automatic kernel module loading

..................................................................................................................
im not sure if i have to check this "automatic kernel module loading" (whether it is important).

and what i have to do with this hotplug? wenn i write in the console "hotplug" then:

Code:

tux b # hotplug
Usage: /etc/hotplug.d/default/default.hotplug AgentName [AgentArguments]
AgentName values on this system:  dasd firmware ieee1394 input net pci scsi tape usb
tux b #

i dont know how to handle this.

micmac your correct /lib/firmwar

milokliz have you patched your kernel with linuxtv.cvs as stated at www.hoochvdr.info ? here is a cut and paste from there site

paste: cd /usr/src
wget http://www.hoochvdr.info/files/dvb-kernel-patch.103105.1.tar.bz2
tar -jxf dvb-kernel-patch.103105.1.tar.bz2

This will extract the scripts and patches into a directory called dvb-kernel-patch. We now, to follow the way I set things up need to rename this directory to linuxtv.cvs, being as this is where we will be pulling the DVB Kernel drivers down to. If you are upgrading your source, which most likely you are, or you wouldn't be here, then it is fastest to just remove the old DVB Patches and move this directory you downloaded in its place. Just type rm -rf linuxtv.cvs. We will also want to set the permissions of the scripts to be executable and the patches to be read only. Do this all by typing the following:

mv dvb-kernel-patch.103105.1 linuxtv.cvs
cd linuxtv.cvs
chmod 755 *.sh
chmod 644 patches/*.diff

Note from above I specify *.sh and *.diff, these are just wildcards noting to change the particular permissions to all files ending in .sh and all files ending in .diff.

Step 4
Download Current DVB-CVS Kernel Drivers and Patch

Using Cym's scripts from above we will now proceed to download and patch the current DVB-CVS Kernel Drivers. Do this by typing the following commands:

./get_dvb.sh

This will download the Current CVS drivers and patch all needed files as per the current patches required to make the drivers support NTSC etc. Sorry for those that are running PAL. You can just edit the patch file and remove the patch for NTSC if you desire. You will get some warnings about a missing cvs file at the beginning of each CVS download. This is normal. You can disregard it.

Step 5
Make DVB-CVS Links in Kernel Source and then Create the DVB Devices.

Now wil will make the links in the kernel source to tell it to use the CVS Drivers. We will first create a symlink pointing to the DVB-CVS Kernel Drivers and then go into that Link and run a script to make the links in the kernel source. Do this by typing the following:

cd /usr/src
ln -s /usr/src/linuxtv.cvs/dvb-kernel DVB
cd DVB
./makelinks /usr/src/linux

We created the link to the DVB-Kernel drivers we downloaded from above, and then we ran the makelinks script to create symbolic links in the Kernel Source pointing back to the DVB-Kernel drivers we downloaded.

then recompile kernel ?

good morning all together :D

thank you for good instruction

i have done all this til the step:

./get_dvb.sh

Code:

tux linuxtv.cvs # ./get_dvb.sh
cvs checkout: warning: failed to open /root/.cvspass for reading: No such file or directory

--------------------------------------------------

but i will tell you now what i have done tonight ( 7 ours before) (that was sleepless night :? )

i have compiled my kernel againe.(and i have such feeling that i have done big mistake)

from this site
http://at76c503a.berlios.de/fw_dl.html

i have found how to activate this in the kernel
---------------------------------------
A kernel with hotplug and firware loading support enabled. The hotplug option is found under "General Setup"/"Support for hot-pluggable devices". The option to enable firmware loading is found under "Device Drivers"/"Generic Driver Options"/"Hotplug firmware loading support".
----------------------------------------
i have done as follow:

cd /usr/src/linux
make clean <-------------------im not sure is it good or is it a mistake
make mrproper
than i have configure my kernel (above)
and kompile and boot
and now wenn i make
[code]
tux linux # modprobe dvb-ttpci
FATAL: Module dvb_ttpci not found.
tux linux #
[code]

now i can not load my dvb driver (somehow modules are disappeared)

im confused.
have i done some[/code]thing wrong with "make clean"

Hi again!

Btw, nice choice. The rev. 1.5 is the best card of all the TT premium cards you can get.

But... you don't have to install the CVS version of the driver. The current CVS doesn't even work with your kernel (2.6.12). I suggest that you install a recent kernel, though (2.6.14.3 for instance), because there have been some fixes.

Regarding the software... the most handiest would be VDR. Even more so if you got a remote control and an IR-receiver (for your COM-port for instance). But it can be a little tricky to setup. That together with tvtime ist just awesome. tvtime alone doesn't have enough control over this card (channel switching is impossible). If you need help I'm willing to put you through this. Best would be a convo on IRC I think. Just say so and we'll go through with this.

Cheers

mic

i know that
---------------------------------
i have compiled my kernel and started kaffeine ,scaned hotbird and it works ,but allitle bit buggy and instable.(no sound and kaffeine dissapear from
time to time) - but nevertheless i am very happy about that.

i have read about vdr i know that is very very good
and YES i would like do use this. :D
it is great that you are willing to help me. big thanks.

i will now download and compile new kernel ( i gues i must patch it too.)

you can tell me what to do or with vdr and tvtime

Code:

tux b # emerge -p vdr

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R   ] media-video/vdr-1.2.6-r1
tux b #

Code:

for a simplified way to install VDR look for a script called vdr-install-script-current.run
I had very little luck with the gentoo way. install vdr through emerge was simple some of the plugins was not
