I'm just wondering if anyone is aware of any tools to verify the quality of a burned dvd... I have been using readcd -c2scan for burned cd's but I'm not sure if it works the same for testing dvd's

no.. well, not for linux at least. I have been using dvdinfopro (windows app).

with Plextor 712, 716 and 760 you can use pxlinux or QPxTool for dvd quality check.
For cd quality check you can use the cxscan-option of readcd (also Plextor Premium and NEC). You need the readcd.c from Alexander Noe and cdrtools-2.01.01_alpha01 or alpha03.
