using svgalib_helper module to output to the TV???

I have a radeon 8500 working in framebuffer to play movies back on my TV.... My goal for this box was basically to watch movies and play video games. So far I can only output to the TV if I use mplayer -vo vesa ./name_of_file.avi. There are some other apps that will also work in framebuffer like the links web browser in "graphics" mode and emulators like gngeo NeoGeo emulator. The problem is any app that uses the svgalib_helper module will show up fine on the monitor but the TV will go to either solid black or solid white (it seems random what color is displayed). My question is it possible to output the content of these apps to the TV without using X and without switching video cards.
