gimp alpha channel

i'm used to using photot shop. the gimp doesn't seem to let me paint in the alpha channel. the only adjustment i can make is in the opacity in the layer dialog. can anybody let me know how to do this if it can be done.

GIMP does have full support for the alpha channel. I am not sure what you are doing wron exactly. Try looking for a GIMP tutorial.

Make sure that the "save transparency" box is unchecked. This also exists in Photoshop, and in the GIMP it is located to the right of the blending style drop-down box.

gimp is actually easier than PS the alpha is automatically generated when you paint on an image with transparency
