I have a PVR-350 card. MythTV can record TV and play it back on the computer monitor just fine, but when I try to play it back on the TV using the TV-out, it appears to be trying to use the frame buffer and do the decoding in software instead of letting the card do it.
Everything seems fine on the ivtv side. In fact, I can cat the MythTV recorded .nuv files out to /dev/video16 and they play fine. (So does the "dd if=/dev/video0 of=/dev/video16 bs=64k".)
In order to get MythTV running on the TV, I loaded the ivtv-fb module and modified my XF86Config so I have two screens (:0.0 is the monitor, :0.1 is the TV). I can run mythfronted on DISPLAY=:0.1 and the GUI shows up fine. However, when I try to watch TV there, it goes slowly and eventually gives up. Here's the output from mythfrontend:
Code: | $ DISPLAY=:0.1 mythfrontend

To me, that looks like it is trying to decode in software and play it on the framebuffer instead of doing the equivalent of sending it out /dev/video16.
How can I get the video display to use the PVR-350's hardware decoding when playing them from MythTV? |

Doh!
I just found the Setup > TV Settings > Playback > Use the PVR-350's TV out / MPEG Decoder setting in mythfrontend.
Looks like that was my problem. I haven't been able to test it yet, but hopefully I can give it a try in the morning. I'm pretty confident that will do it. |
