I'm gonna try to write an NCurses installer for gentoo.
I was planning on having 2 Install options, the current way but w/ the install guide displayed either on half the screen or another virtual terminal and the ncurses gui based way. I don't want it to get in the way as w/ so many distros, it'll just provide some sort of gui frontend to the normal install. I'm also gonna make it take care of all configuration (including X at some point) before the install.

Some quick question:
1) Which do you think would be better for displaying documentation: taking up half teh install screen or using 2 virtual terminals w/ the install in one and the docs fullscreen (in links?) in the other?
2) Where can i find technical info on how portage is organized (for purposes of figuring out which packages are available?) I think i just missed this one in the docs.
3) Where is a good site to ask my n00bish ncurses questions?

UPDATE:
I'll make a rescue mode that can get on #gentoo (which server's best) or the forums.
UPDATE:
I named it Gentooer

1) Both options, answered by the user. - or - Split screen.
2) Have you read the Portage Manual? I thought it was fairly informative, though I don't know that it answers your question. I'm not entirely sure what your asking.
3) If I told you, I'd have to kill you. - or - I have no idea.

1) are classes good/necessary of a project like this. The app is more task mased than object based, imo. Classes don't really adapt to tasks?
2) is using cout / cerr for the non curses part bad?
