Hi,

I've been running the folding@home for a week now, but I can't see my stats on the stats page:
http://folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/searchstats

/opt/foldingathome/client.cfg
Code:

[settings]
username=vandijk
team=11298
asknet=no
machineid=1

[http]
active=no
host=localhost
port=8080

BTW
Besides my AMD 850Mhz I have two Pentium 4 2.6Ghz laptops in my network that are also running the folding@home client with the same username and team.

Note, that I first configured my client with the username: bassvandijk but I changed that to: vandijk.

I want to contribute to the GLUE folding team... but I run a dual-processor system and it's only using one CPU. How can I make it use two? The Folding@Home FAQ only covers windoze machines.

ok, i have emerged foldingathome and joined GLUE

a few questions
1. i have found a gkrellm2 plugin that monitors f@h, problem is, it dont seem to work, it dont start f@h from gkrellm and it displays ***not running even when i have manually started f@h

from my .gkrellm2/user-config

Code:

gkrellfah2 update_timeout 50
gkrellfah2 format_string $f: $p: $D: $d:
gkrellfah2 path_string /opt/foldingathome
gkrellfah2 wu_done_cmd
gkrellfah2 start_cmd ./foldingathome
gkrellfah2 cmd_arg -forceasm -advmethods
gkrellfah2 stop_cmd
gkrellfah2 startup_option 0
gkrellfah2 persist_option 1
gkrellfah2 kill_option 0
gkrellfah2 pcpu_option 1
gkrellfah2 pcpu_timeout 5
gkrellfah2 dialup_option 0
gkrellfah2 start_cmd ./foldingathome
gkrellfah2 cmd_arg -forceasm -advmethods
gkrellfah2 stop_cmd
gkrellfah2 startup_option 0
gkrellfah2 persist_option 1
gkrellfah2 kill_option 0
gkrellfah2 pcpu_option 1
gkrellfah2 pcpu_timeout 5
gkrellfah2 dialup_option 0
gkrellfah2 dialup_cmd pon provider
gkrellfah2 dialup_timeout 450
gkrellfah2 hangup_cmd poff
gkrellfah2 hangup_timeout 30

2. also for some reason f@h seems to be eating up my bandwidth when it is running, ruining my bittorrent downloads and what not

from my client.cfg

Code:

[settings]
username=lin00b
team=11298
asknet=yes
machineid=1

[http]
active=no
host=localhost
port=8080
usepasswd=yes

[clienttype]
type=0

[core]
priority=0
disableassembly=no
ignoredeadlines=no
usepasswd=yes

[clienttype]
type=0

[core]
priority=0
disableassembly=no
ignoredeadlines=no

help?

I'd also like to try to get multithreading cuz it seemed to be effective running 2 threads for seti on my P4 w/ HT...

OK. I haven't got a dual-processor (I really wish I did) so I'm not sure if this would actually work. I've written a script for dual-processor machines to run folding@home:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=119919

If you've got a dual processor box please test the script.

Noticed there was a ebuild submitted in bugs. Haven't tried it though. Since old one still working, going to wait till it is out.

hmmm current ebuild runs the client as root. Not a good idea. I was going to submit a patch but it had already been done.

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37327

You may trust the foldingathome client but do you really want a process you have no control over running as root? Maybe the ebuild should also chroot this process too.

I didn't worry about that too much until read a few security books on Linux.
The less 3rd party programs running as root the better.
Glad someone thought of this. Good idea.

Holy cow, I've not been paying attention to my folding@home stats until I looked just now. I've managed to jump to number 33 on the list! This tells me that some of the folders out there are slacking a little bit... I don't fold 24/7 either!

I'm starting to turn in a few WU for Gentoo, having been folding for Silent PC Review for nearly 6 months. Seeing that GLUE can make up some progress and that I can give something back in the form of spare cycles for using Gentoo. I'm folding as the user "CoolGav"...

How did you fix it? I am having the same problems. They started recently. For months I was able to fold without any issues, but recently I see problems with returning completed units. Any help would be appreciated ...

Hey fellas, if you are looking for the best folding stats anywhere on the net, then I highly recommend www.extremeoverclocking.com. The stas page there is generally agreed to be the best by justabout all the folding teams. Check it out if you're interested. We also have some great info about folding available in the forums there, so that may be interesting as well. Happy folding fellas!!!

Thanks for that link Viper, those stats ARE nice :)

Just an interesting note though.. I used to fold for the Linux team, just changed to GLUE now. But... the combined score of the Linux team (53rd place) and the GLUE team (89th) is 1,901,306 (linux) + 887,070 (gentoo) which equals 2,788,376. That would put the Linux+GLUE score at 39th place. Team MacOSX is at 17th with 7.5 million points! It would be exciting to be at least a little closer to them...

That last bit makes me wonder though.... I didn't know there were that many Mac users out there.... :oops: Must be those G5s going to work on those WUs...

Yeah, they actually run mostly PC's, so their name is really a misnomer. We are inconstant competition with them.
