|
|
hi,
i just emerged 2.6.1 kernel and in the kernel configuration i selected ALSA and driver for intel8x0.
My onboard sound uses the Intel southbridge and i believe it should be using the intel8x0 driver. please correct me if i am wrong.
when i booted up the 2.6.1 kernel, dmesg tells me the snd-card-0 cannot be loaded.
do i need to install anything in order for the snd-card to be loaded? i am posting from my winxp notebook now and thus i cannot paste the exact output of dmesg.
lspci -v shows me that the onboard sound card is detected but the model is not known.
please advice.
thanks.
rgds,

Look at the startup of the LiveCD. There is a point loading soundmodules. Look which modules is loaded there. That should tell you what exactly you have to load. |

You did your install with a self booting CD, right? This is the LiveCD. It loads all your hardware. In this loading there is a point loading soundmodules (for me that is via82xx, for soundblaster emuk101 I think). Look at this name, that is the modules you have to load in the kernel.
You find the modules in the kernel under /devices/sound (Could be wrong, sorry me in a huury)
and there you must choose your soundcard. Then compile your kernel new. Boot with that kernel and emerge alsa-utils. But if you don't find our sound-card the alsa-utils won't help. Look at the gentoo alsa guide for more help. |
