Can someone show me how to set up OSS and esound (or OSS and arts)?
I'm going to wait for nvidia to do something about their nforce audio chipset and drivers for linux, but until then, i still want sound.
I compiled my kernel with the sound module for the nforce board.
I've emerged esound (i'm using gnome).
I've loaded esound at the boot runlevel.
I've most of my system with the "-alsa" use flag.
I've recompiled xmms (i don't think this was needed).
xmms plays fine using the esound output, but nothing is coming through the speakers.
Help me out! |

Using the nforce board? Me too. And I can tell you that the alsa driver is the best driver for the onboard sound.
ALSA_CARDS="intel8x0" emerge alsa-driver
then set it up as per the alsa install docs on the Gentoo site.
The ALSA drivers are far superior to the nvidia binary driver, and the OSS drivers.
Cheers,
Chris. |
