Surf browser can't open youtube videos: surf-0.6 branch (installed with make install) with webkit-gtk-2.14 crashes, surf browser 0.6 or 0.7 with webkit-gtk-2.4 can't play them..
With Chromium everything plays fine.
Here are my USE flags, do I miss anything?

are you sure that a basic browser has such features?
Basic browser is most probably only html viewer!
afaik o.7 is the latest release according to a popular encyclopedia.

I found also ohter hacks for htat browser which does similar things |

What is the cause for that? A wrong USE flag? Missing codec? Webkit-gtk?
What about others? Does surf play youtube videos for others? |

Webkit-gtk seems to use Gstreamer. I'd check your gst-plugins etc.
I'm currently compiling webkit-gtk to test how Surf works for me. |

Webkit-gtk/surf finally finished compiling and I confirmed that Youtube videos DO work.
fyi, here's my plugins

I then removed the ffmpeg USE flag from gst-plugins-meta which in turn let me unmerge gst-plugins-libav. After that Youtube videos didn't play anymore. So try with gst-plugins-libav.
edit: btw, I'm on ~amd64 system-wide so all versions are the latest. |

As you mention, gst-plugins-libav was the missing codec. Now everything is fine! |
