hi, I got two Realtec Cards in my PC (RTL8139C both, but tried a RTL8139D too)
if eth0 is used, everything is fine. eth0 is connected to the local network and the internet.
eth1 should be connected to another PC where I want to get gentoo in. the PCs are connected via a crossed cable.
then I do this:
Code: | ifconfig eth1 192.168.1.1 up |
still - everything fine.
but: one ping from the other PC or any traffic on my eth1 makes a hard system crash.
I noticed that
Code: | bash-2.05b# cat /proc/interrupts
CPU0
0: 467956 XT-PIC timer
1: 871 XT-PIC i8042
2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
4: 2191 XT-PIC serial
8: 2 XT-PIC rtc
9: 0 XT-PIC acpi
11: 52591 XT-PIC Ensoniq AudioPCI, VIA8233, eth0, eth1, nvidia
12: 16681 XT-PIC i8042
14: 31611 XT-PIC ide0
15: 1288 XT-PIC ide1
NMI: 0

eth1 use the same irq if i do ifconfig eth1 up
I want to solve that somehow. it is a pain in the ass that all my devices use IRQ 11 and 10 is almost unused.
btw. lspci isnt installed on my system. in which package is lspci?
so my questions are:
anybody any help
AND
I think reconfiguring the IRQs for the PCI cards would be fine, but HOW?
(I read something about adding to modules.conf: options driver irq=10,11, but this is 1st no gentoo solution 2nd maybe doesnt help)

after playing around I found the failure (which rather suprised me)
it was the network card of the other computer, which was not working!
strange that it could kill MY system because of that |
