This can happen when mixing stable and unstable. I'm guilty of doing that too. I never accept every version of a package. I only mask a certain version (or range) and only when needed. More work, but safer. Also not officially supported.

What was the emerge command line you tried to run?

ah, that's hardly a "stable gentoo repo", but a mix of so many repos with some unstable and live packages accept_keyworded...

This probably happens when emerge cannot find a <9999 version of a package to satisfy the dependencies. Try emerge with the --tree option, and also equery depends

the command is
Code:
sudo emerge -a --autounmask --keep-going --verbose --update --deep --autounmask-write --newuse @world

also this is whath append with my accept-keywords
https://paste.gentoo.zip/dtJ4mFVB

which i dont want, but i am not sure how to fix this, when i accept this proposal, it then pulls the 999 versions

The 9999's are being pulled in from the kde overlay, which suggests that something you have installed (and probably explicitly unmasked) from that overlay is pulling them in.

Add taking a brief look at the ebuilds in the kde overlay ..... it seems they're all 9999s.

The two main alternatives would seem to be

  • back off - remove the kde overlay & tidy up
  • go all in - switch to ~arch, enable everything in the kde overlay, and buckle up for an exciting ride

I don't think there's a realistic inbetween.

Bill

picarica,

Code:
--autounmask --autounmask-write
tells portage to guess what you want to do.
Guessing than you want live ebuilds is usually an indication that the guess is wrong.
Use --autounmask for hints if you must but you are in charge.
Code:
--autounmask --autounmask-write
has no use on a stable system.
Overlays are a warning sign. Most packages in overlays are testing or live.

You cannot mix and match KDE versions. Don't use the KDE overlay. That's where development happens before things are ready for testing in ::gentoo.
If you want to join in development, go ahead. It will be a bumpy ride.

okay i think solved the issue, the package kwin-forceblur was pulling something for kde overlay, and i had it enables for no reason, so i removed that package and everything went fine, that was my fault for using some random package

I think --autounmask-write=y is ok, and is default enabled with --ask
but --autounmask=y – if you want using it, best using it together with --autounmask-keep-masks=y
(see in "man emerge" too)
