Quick question (haha, well I'll try).
I started following the Qt5 Removal TRACKER bug out of interest to see when it approaches completion (not that I'm straining at the leash to be rid of Qt5 but I wanted to get a sense what on my system still needs it and for how much longer).
One I noticed on my own system that is not listed is media-video/vlc[gui]. I note that the -9999 live ebuild has moved to Qt6, but -3.0.9999 has not. (I have no sense of what this means in terms of when it will be seen in a release.)
There's no bug existing to tie vlc into that tracker, but the absence of one for what's a pretty high-profile package makes me want to check in case there is a good reason for the absence that's above my pay-grade, before butting in on a tracker which normally only devs seem to do.
Anyone advise? |

Well, check the 3.x branch and see if it moved to Qt6. If it did, it's perfectly reasonable to file a bug. Moreover x.9999 are not that hight profile versions and likely nobody complained, that's why it hasn't been updated.
Even better, copy the ebuild in your local overlay, modify it and see if it works. If it does, report it in the bug.
And yes, I'm not a dev and still file bugs whenever I find it reasonable.
Best Regards,

My understanding is that a Gentoo bug report for vlc would be appropriate, but that it should be a separate bug that has a blocker relation to the tracker bug, rather than a comment directly on the tracker bug. |

Thanks for the replies. The Qt6 support was in a merge request that went in some time ago so it is in master (and thus in the -9999 ebuild), but I guess not yet in the 3.0 branch, and I couldn't see anything to indicate when it'd be expected to land in an actual release (which I assume is what Gentoo will want for a proper ebuild).
Based on that I will add a bug to block the tracker shortly. |
