Hello, I am getting xz-ulits circular dependencies on world update as well as updating other packages.
my xz-utils is at 5.4.2 as recommended.
Code:

(app-arch/xz-utils-5.4.2:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) depends on
(app-portage/elt-patches-20240324:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) (buildtime)
(app-arch/xz-utils-5.4.2:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) (buildtime)

Show us the complete output as well as the command you're running. Emerge --info might also be helpful.

Also you're a bit too late with the update of xz-utils. The whole backdoor drama was some time in April or even the end of March.

Best Regards,
Georgi

Are all the other packages showing a "N" for new by any chances? Aka, portage thinks nothing is installed.

That circular dependency typically happens when /var is not mounted (if separate) or /var/db/pkg was deleted for some reason (aka the files where portage stores its knowledge of what is installed). Losing it essentially means needing to reinstall unless you have a backup, it'd be too messy to salvage and require more work+workarounds than just reinstalling.

Similar thread where Sam has expressed the same concern:

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1169055.html

Happening to multiple users at the same time is suspicious though.

It looks to me like it's the same user, just opening a new thread for the same problem.

ritzmax72: why did you make a separate thread instead of continuing in @world update: dependency loop: xz-utils, elt-patches?

I tend to see the cell below in the Author column, sorry...

p.s. actually the other thread was split off of the pinned backdoor thread and the user was maybe confused.

Best Regards,
Georgi

I apologize. I vaguely remember asking it on xz-utils sticky so I thought I make a separate thread for my own issue. I already did and then forgot about it.
I will continue posting on original thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1169055.html
